My my, “Charlotte” went and got herself a few new shades! She started off in a very prim and proper ivory shade, but recently has been seen in Bronze, Chocolate and now Platinum!

Over the next few days I’ll be adding in these luscious new shades to my handmade jewellery shop- perfect for harmonising a look amongst the ladies in your bridal party while keeping enough variet in the shades and styles to keep everyone happy!

Freshwater pearls are gorgeous, but sometimes you want more. Not as much as “too much”, just a nice place in between so that you can wear your traditional pearls but also feel like they’re now’s interpretation.

This is what “Lily” feels like for me; by adding in some crystal clear Swarovskis with the organic gems, it’s kind of a lovely fusion that creates an updated look for the modern bride. Click here for more details.

Pearls are the classic wedding choice, but if you’re looking to update the look and keep it a little edgy then this super-long necklace is the answer!
Long rope necklaces are a key look this season, and with no wonder- they’re so versatile. Wear this necklace long, double, tripled or even stacked as a bracelet.
This is another of those Chanel-inspired moments…

Every time I get a cold (which isn’t often enough these days) I cosy up on the sofa and watch my set of Pride and Prejudice DVDs- the BBC adaptation with Jennifer Ehle and Colin Firth. And if anyone asks I’m working because the jewellery is one of those amazing aspects of this production!
So amazing that it inspired a range of bridal jewellery made from Swarovski pearls and other crystal components.
The image shown here is part of the Charlotte range.

I watched a Shirley McLaine TV series the other day- she was portraying Coco Chanel and it was just fabulous! I loved the outfits and particularly the jewellery.

It inspired me to create a little range of long pearl necklaces and assorted earrings:

There are no bracelets because, for this range the necklaces double up as bracelets- you just wear it stacked.
Très chic comme ça!

“Carita” is the answer to this season’s multi-stranded necklace look. It has a gorgeous “organic” appearance achieve by the use of freshwater pearls or various different sizes and would make perfect jewellery for a wedding or other occasion where a classic yet contemporary set of pearls might be required…!

After selecting your wedding gown choosing your bridal jewellery sets is the next logical step. Undoubtedly you chose the shade of your gown very carefully to complement your skin and hair colour. Don’t undo all that good work by picking accessories that don’t match- if you don’t pay attention to the bridal jewellery sets then you could run the risk of ending up with jewellery that will clash with the gown and detract from the main event- you looking beautiful in your dress.
On the other hand, well-chosen jewellery will enhance the overall look. It will add the finishing touch and bring the look together.
This short guide shows you how to match shade of your gown with the bridal jewellery sets and bridal hair accessories, particularly with regard to pearls and Swarovski crystals as these are a much-loved option for weddings. Read the guidelines below to help you get started with choosing and steer clear of colour clashes.

“White”, “Pure White” or “Stark White”
The brightest, crispest white- perfect for darker skin tones and winter weddings. (Thankfully, white is shrugging off its old-fashioned requirements.)
Swarovski- white pearls, crystal clear, crystal Aurora Borealis (AB), white opal
Metal- silver tone
Freshwater pearls- pure white

“Natural White”, “Diamond White” or “Silk White”
A softer shade of white, and hard to differentiate from pure white in photos, more flattering for paler skin tones than pure white.
Swarovski- cream or white pearls, crystal clear, crystal silver shade
Metal- silver tone
Freshwater pearls- off white

“Ivory”, “Candlelight” or “Eggshell”
A darker, more creamy tone- can be yellowish, peachy or biscuit.
Swarovski- cream pearls, crystal golden shadow
Metal- yellow/gold tone or silver tone
Freshwater pearls- cream or ivory

General Guidelines

Check the complete look
No matter what shade your bridal gown, be sure to try on everything together at least once, and also check how it looks in natural daylight, especially if you’re planning plenty of outdoors wedding photos.

Faux or Freshwater Pearls?
Freshwater pearls add a lovely natural, organic touch and crystal pearls have the look of flawless perfection.
If you go for freshwater then be careful about a couple of things- the quality and the colour. Freshwater pearls vary wildly in quality- I have seen near-perfect, very round pearls with excellent surface quality through to bumpy, pitted pearls with poor lustre and iridescence.
Also, pearls are very difficult to photograph accurately so matching the shade of your dress colour up to a photographic image is not a reliable method.
Swarovski pearls have a very pleasing lustre and weight, are harder wearing than organic pearls and, crucially, when you order “white” that is exactly what you will receive, plus you can get the exact sizes of beads that you require (to the mm).

Buying Online
There is a huge amount of fantastic bridal jewellery available online, but just make sure that they have a no-fuss returns policy in case the set you choose is unsuitable.

Engagement Ring Settings is a pretty complicated subject and there’s a lot to know so I’m going to refer you to the very knowledgeable Carly Wickell over on About .com:
http://jewelry.about.com/od/choosesetting/Engagement_Ring_Settings.htm

In this article she shows you how to make diamonds look bigger, discusses all the major ring settings such as

  • Pavé Setting
  • Prong Setting
  • Bezel Settings
  • Channel Setting

All of these have plenty of photo galleries and virtual tours.

There’s even advice on how to reset an heirloom diamond.

It’s the sort of guide I wish I had found before I chose my engagement ring- I love my ring and it’s perfect for me, but I might have felt more relaxed when choosing it had I read Carly’s advice to begin with!

When choosing your wedding bands and the ring engraving, make sure that if the ring needs resizing then do that before you have it engraved…
