Or a loftier setting...set a lot higher than the band. Smaller stones around the diamond. If it is an engagement ring, I wouldn't change anything, but you could always accent it with a plain band, so that the diamond sticks out more. Maybe just get smaller hands? Also, look into surrounding it with smaller, lesser quality stones in the new setting.
